RESA Academy, an alternative school founded in 1994, serves students in the Butts County, Lamar County, and Griffin-Spalding school systems. We are located on the campus of the old West Griffin School at 814 Experiment Street, Griffin, Georgia 30223.
We provide chronically disruptive students in grades 6-12 with the social services, individualized instruction, and/or transitions to other programs they need to become successful students and good citizens in the school and larger community.
We work with students to help them achieve one of four goals:
We teach classes that are comparable in content to the classes at the home schools we serve. We do this by using the State of Georgia's QCC as our guide. We try to ensure as much as reasonably possible that students returning to their home schools have covered the same objectives at our school as they would have had they been enrolled in their home schools.
The Academy has excellent computer facilities which are frequently used as an integrated part of our classwork. The computers promote more individualized attention to the needs of each student.
We also work with students to achieve therapeutic success. Through small groups, individual counseling, and classes promoting social skills, we try to equip each student with the life skills necessary to work through his/her own problems.
School is in session Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm.
